It's Those Hollywood Nights

It is interesting how one thing leads to another. Last year, at about this time, I was sitting in Los Angeles Union Station getting ready to embark on the SoCal road trip to Anaheim, San Bernardino and San Diego. During my layover, I was exploring a little, and I started to hatch the idea of a long-weekend trip down to see the Dodgers play. The tools were in place to make it happen through public transportation, so I kept the thought in my mind as I went about the summer. Now, that thought has come to reality. Tonight, I leave for Los Angeles for the Surfliner trip to see the Dodgers play the Angels at Dodger Stadium and the Padres play the Braves at Petco Park.

This road trip is sure to be a whirlwind tour of the major metropolitan areas of Southern California. My girlfriend and I depart tonight around 2020 arriving into LAX around 2230. We'll board this bus called the FlyAway to our hotel over by Union Station before turning in for the evening. Tomorrow morning, we'll wake up and eat some breakfast then board the Dodger Stadium Express for the short ride up to Chavez Ravine to see the Angels-Dodgers. After the game we'll come down to Union Station and board the Surfliner train to San Diego.

Getting into San Diego around 8pm, we're going to play it by ear. We're not exactly sure what we'll do, but there is a lot to choose from. An idea that cropped into our head was to go to the haunted Whaley House in Old Town and then hit up the bars and clubs in the Gaslamp District.

On Sunday morning, we're going to board the trolley to Mission San Diego and see the first mission of the California Mission chain and the eighth total mission I've seen personally. We'll then ride the trolley all the way back down to Petco Park to see the Braves-Padres tilt in the afternoon.

We're not really sure what to do after that. We may go to the beach, we may go to Balboa Park. We have a San Diego tourist guide, so we can afford to play it loose when we're down there.

Monday morning will have us boarding the train back towards Los Angeles where we'll board the FlyAway one more time to LAX and fly home.

This will be my first time going to Dodger Stadium. I am very curious to see what it is like as the Stadium and the Dodgers themselves have been in the news recently for some less than reputable topics. Fan beatings, low attendance and crumbling ownership have dominated the headlines about the Dodgers, so I am very interested to see first-hand what it is like down in Los Angeles.

As always, I will be bringing down my computer for blog posts. My phone will be on and active, so make sure to keep up to speed on Twitter, Facebook and FourSquare.

Always take on a 3-0 pitch ;)
